Hope Solo: 3 Ways to Win Despite Mistakes

Do Not Deny Your Mistakes
Hope Solo has been reinstated to the U.S. women's soccer team after serving a 30-day suspension.  Solo's most recent mistake has given her the opportunity to learn a few valuable lessons.  Solo was with her husband, Jerramy Stevens, when he was arrested for driving under the influence.  The van that Stevens was operating was rented by U.S. Soccer.  When it rains, it pours for Solo who just had her domestic violence case dismissed seven days before the incident.  If Solo can pull herself together, she can provide a success story to emulate.  Reports indicate that Solo was nearly arrested herself.  She was involved in an altercation with the police because she did not agree with their actions. Solo could have attempted to publicly defend her actions and let the public know that she disagreed with the suspension.  Instead of denying her mistake, Solo issued an apology.

Treat your most recent mistake like your best lesson learned.  Life does not come w…

3 Victory Lessons from Tracy Morgan

Be Grateful
Last year, Tracy Morgan was involved in a horrific accident.  He suffered a broken leg, nose and ribs.  Morgan also suffered a traumatic brain injury due to the accident.  Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey paid tribute to Morgan Sunday at the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special.  Morgan's friend, Jimmy McNair was killed in the accident.

What are you grateful for today? Imagine waking up today with only the things you have been thankful for.  Consider the people that are happy with a lot less than what you have.  Be thankful for your life.  Someone else is fighting to survive.

Keep on Pushing
In 1996, Tracy Morgan joined the cast of Saturday Night Live.  In 2003, he left SNL and launched The Tracy Morgan Show.  The show was a failure and was cancelled after one season.  Morgan could have given up but instead he kept his head high and continued to look for work.  He found his niche in 2006 on the hit show 30 Rock.

Morgan proves that failure is the opportunity to be…

3 Life Lessons from Dean Smith

Dean Smith did not want to be praised for his accomplishments.  He was a very shy person and did not think it was fair for one person to receive all the recognition for a team's effort.  Former Tar Heel basketball players describe the way that Smith treated them like family, no matter how talented they were.  In 1986, Smith requested for the Dean E. Smith Center to honor the players as opposed to him.

Greek proverb states, "A society grows when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."  Dean Smith was selfless.  Throughout his life, he gave his best to the people he encountered therefore the best came back to him.  Do not expect to receive if you do not contribute.  Instead of asking yourself what you can get, ask yourself what you can give.  How do you treat people in your life that are not in a position to benefit you?

Stand for something or you will fall for anything.  Dean Smith had beliefs and was proud of them.  Charlie…

Babysitter or Boss: 3 Victory Lessons From Olivia Pope

1. Make Them Miss You “Where’s the Black Lady? The one in charge.” The world comes to a stop when Olivia Pope is missing! Pope describes herself as one of “the most powerful assets in the world”.  She then explains that if a person owned Olivia Pope, they own the President.  They become the most powerful person in the world.  “DO YOU WANT TO BE A BABYSITTER OR DO YOU WANT TO BE A BOSS?”

Make the world stop! Do something meaningful. There are people that have ‘Olivia Pope’—essential resources—that they can use to achieve their goals yet they refuse to acknowledge this fact and would much rather continue to make excuses. You can continue to sit or you can decide to soar. It is up to you.

2. If It Is Broken, Fix It Olivia Pope is a fixer. Whether she is in the White House or in lockup, Olivia is constantly attempting to find solutions. Olivia is being held against her will. At one point we think that she has given up hope but then she handles her problem like a gladiator in a suit! She convi…
